Hellas Verona 2-1 Juventus: Simeone brace inflicts more misery on Allegri

Giovanni Simeone scored twice as Hellas Verona inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Juventus in Saturday s Serie A clash.

The in-form striker bagged a quickfire first-half brace – taking his league tally for the season to eight – to put Verona in command at Stadio Marc Antonio Bentegodi.

Substitute Weston McKennie pulled one back with 10 minutes remaining but could not prevent a second loss in the space of four days for the visitors, who were also beaten 2-1 by Sassuolo in midweek.

Following a fourth straight home win, Verona move above Massimiliano Allegri s men on goal difference into eighth place.

15 Since Igor Tudor became the Verona manager, only AC Milan and Napoli (19 each) have gained more Serie A points than Hellas (15). Fire.

Schurrie talks up German title hopes

Bayer Leverkusen attacker Andre Schurrle believes that Germany can achieve something special at Euro 2012.

National team coach Joachim Loew and his men were beaten 1-0 by Spain in the final of Euro 2008, but Schurrle believes Germany have what it takes to take the trophy home this time around.

We ve got a really great side and could achieve something very special. Everything is right on and off the pitch. The coach and his staff are doing some great work with us players and we can all be very proud, Schurrle told fifa.com.

Germany are always among the favourites at major tournaments. We want to bring the next European Championship trophy back home, but it s going to be tough because there are five or six other nations with the exact same goal and the quality t…

Dos Santos stuck in Spurs limbo

Forgotten man Giovani dos Santos is eyeing the exit door after being continually overlooked at Tottenham Hotspur.

Dos Santos, 22, came through the famed La Masia youth academy at La Liga club Barcelona.

But the Mexican international failed to seal a regular place in the Catalan giants first team and joined Spurs in June 2008.

The attacking midfielder has also struggled to make an impression in north London, notching just 26 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham during his time at the club.

Speaking ahead of Mexico s friendly against Serbia on Friday, Dos Santos, who has been loaned out to Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander, hinted he would again seek a move away from White Hart Lane when the January transfer window opens.

Athletic Bilbao 2 BATE 0: Spanish side book Europa League place

Athletic Bilbao sealed third place in UEFA Champions League Group H and a Europa League spot with a 2-0 home win against BATE.

Neither team could advance to the last 16 after Wednesday s clash, but the hosts knew a draw would be enough to secure their spot in Europe s second-tier competition while only a win would do for BATE.

Aleksandr Yermakovich s men frustrated Athletic until the 47th minute when Mikel San Jose scored the vital opener from a corner and Markel Susaeta added a second late on.

Susaeta s strike also meant BATE hold the unenviable record of conceding the most goals in a Champions League group stage at 24, the previous mark of 22 having been set by Dinamo Zagreb during the 2011-12 season.

BATE s 2-1 victory against Ernesto Valverde s …

Hummels: I´m on another planet

Mats Hummels was left feeling out of this world after Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time to win the FIFA World Cup on Sunday.

Mario Gotze an 88th-minute substitute was the hero for Joachim Low s men at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, finding the back of the net in the 113th minute of an intriguing match to deliver a fourth World Cup crown for Germany.

After losing to Brazil in the 2002 decider and finishing third at back-to-back World Cups in 2006 and 2010, Germany finally achieved the ultimate goal their first since West Germany accounted for Argentina in the 1990 final and Dortmund defender Hummels conceded he was too tired to truly appreciate the magnitude of the nation s glory in Brazil.

I feel like I m on another planet, as I am too physically exhaust…

Solskjaer: PSG comeback gives Man United hope for Barcelona

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United can use the experience of coming from behind to knock out Paris Saint-Germain to help them in their Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona.

United lost the first leg of their last-16 tie with PSG 2-0 at home but a young team completed an improbable fightback in the French capital, Marcus Rashford s late penalty, awarded after a VAR check, sealing a 3-1 win.

Solskjaer s side face a similarly tough task in Tuesday s quarter-final second leg away to Barca, having fallen 1-0 at home last week thanks to Luke Shaw s own goal, the defender deflecting the ball in after Lionel Messi set up Luis Suarez.

The United manager accepts his side need to be more effective in front of goal, having failed to test Marc-Andre ter …

Javi Fuego completes Espanyol switch

Espanyol have completed the signing of the experienced Javi Fuego from Valencia for a reported fee of €2 million.

The hard-working midfielder joined Valencia on a free transfer from Rayo Vallecano in July 2013 and became an important part of the team that finished fourth in LaLiga during the 2014-15 campaign.

However, as Valencia struggled last term Fuego failed to replicate the form that had made him integral to the side and the club deemed him to be dispensable, with Espanyol now hoping the 32-year-old still has plenty to give after signing a three-year deal.

Fuego has become Espanyol s seventh signing of the close-season after bringing in Martin Demichelis, Jose Antonio Reyes, Roberto Jimenez, Pablo Piatti, Leo Baptistao and Jose Manuel Jurado.

Arsenal make bid for Under

According to reports in Italy, Arsenal have made a bid for Roma youngster Cengiz Under. The offer is believed to be around £26 million, however, the Italian club value him at £35 million which means that boss Unai Emery may well need to go back to the drawing board. The Gunners are currently looking at possible options ahead of the summer transfer window, in the wake of their poor dealings during January.

Under has been with Roma since 2017 when he made the jump over from Basaksehir, and at the age of just 21, it feels like the only way is up for the Turkish international. Arsenal have been interested in Under for quite some time now, but haven’t quite been able to push a deal over the line up to this point.

Under became the youngest Turkish player to score in the C…

Ronaldo to be named in Portugal´s Nations League squad

Cristiano Ronaldo will be called up to the Portugal squad for the Nations League Finals next month, Fernando Santos has confirmed.

Portugal boss Santos, who guided the nation to their first-ever international tournament triumph when they won Euro 2016, made the announcement when speaking with Sport TV.

Yes, CR7 will certainly be in the squad that I will name on May 23, he said. His absence during the group stage, which has already been explained, was totally legitimate and understandable.

Portugal will face Switzerland on June 5 in the semi-finals and victory will see them through to a second final in three years and take on either England or Netherlands, who will contest the other semi-final.

Ronaldo, 34, did not feature in the Nations League group ga…
