Dos Santos stuck in Spurs limbo

Forgotten man Giovani dos Santos is eyeing the exit door after being continually overlooked at Tottenham Hotspur.

Dos Santos, 22, came through the famed La Masia youth academy at La Liga club Barcelona.

But the Mexican international failed to seal a regular place in the Catalan giants first team and joined Spurs in June 2008.

The attacking midfielder has also struggled to make an impression in north London, notching just 26 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham during his time at the club.

Speaking ahead of Mexico s friendly against Serbia on Friday, Dos Santos, who has been loaned out to Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander, hinted he would again seek a move away from White Hart Lane when the January transfer window opens.

Barcelona and Real Madrid prepare to square off in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Wednesday night which marks first of three El Clasico encounters we are in for in less than a month’s time.

Barcelona

Having won five Copa del Rey trophies on the trot, Barcelona head into the Wednesday’s duel against Real Madrid looking to get one step closer to continuing their dominance in the competition.

Ernesto Valverde’s men did not exactly go through a straightforward path towards this year’s semifinal. Having gone past Cultural Leonesa, Levante and Sevilla, Barcelona were seen losing their away games in last two rounds and were forced to turn things around on the home gr…

Sevilla 0 Barcelona 5: Suarez and Messi lead crushing Copa final win

Barcelona were at their ruthless best as Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi inspired a crushing 5-0 win over Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final, with Andres Iniesta capping what is expected to be his last final in Spanish football with a fine goal.

Spain and Barca icon Iniesta is reportedly set to depart for a Chinese Super League side at the end of the season and he rolled back the years with an excellent individual display, while Suarez and Messi led from the front in an emphatic triumph to give Ernesto Valverde his first trophy at the club.

It took less than a quarter of an hour for Barca to break the deadlock through Suarez, rounding off a route-one move.

They ultimately went into the break 3-0 up, as Messi fired home and then set up the lethal Suarez for his secon…

Sweden 3-2 Poland: Swedes see off fightback to win group as Poles crash out

Sweden secured their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2020 as group winners as they sent Poland crashing out with a 3-2 victory in Saint Petersburg.

The Swedes looked to be cruising into the last 16 after going two up through Emil Forsberg only for a double from Robert Lewandowski to set up a nervy finish.

However, with Paulo Sousa s side pushing for the winner they needed to avoid an early exit, they were hit on the break and condemned to defeat by substitute Viktor Claesson.

That stoppage-time goal ensured Sweden leapfrogged Spain into top spot in Group E, while Poland dropped out of the tournament with just a single point to their name.

Toronto FC v New York City FC: Preview and prediction

New York City FC centre-back Thiago Martins accepts his side must improve their away form, starting with this weekend s trip to Eastern Conference rivals Toronto FC.

City enter Saturday s contest at BMO Field sitting fourth in the East following back-to-back home victories against Nashville SC and FC Dallas.

Nick Cushing s side are unbeaten in nine home league games stretching back into last season, but they have taken just two points from a possible 12 on their travels this term.

With a run of four successive road games to come, Martins is eager for NYCFC to get off the mark with their first away victory.

It s not easy, but we need to impose ourselves away from home, he said. We know away from home they press higher, they have the atmosphere, the stadiu…

Ballon d´Or 2018: Dybala, De Gea and Lewandowski among 10 snubbed stars

Juventus forward Paulo Dybala and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski are among the big names to have missed out on the 2018 Ballon d Or after the announcement of the 30-strong list of nominees.

Both players were in contention for the 2017 award after title-winning seasons with their respective clubs, but, despite retaining those crowns and enjoying fine campaigns, they were overlooked by the journalists and national team coaches and captains who took part in France Football s 2018 vote.

While the likes of Karim Benzema, who scored just five league goals in 32 appearances for Real Madrid last season, are in the running for this year s award, some of Europe s finest talents know that they will not be named the world s best player in December.

Here are 10 of t…
